"Just a word to explain a little what I feel at this moment when doing the reproductions of works, whether pictoral or historical.
First of all, I read and write a sum-up in notebooks on the subjects I am enclined to study. Then I select a reproduction which, in 'my opinion', speaks of the relevant subject better than another... while introducing my own rythm into it.
(Hundreds of artists of all times have copied the great ones, be it in Italy, in Greece or in the Louvre.) The ancient ones found that this was an efficient means (amongst others) to learn to look.
The "relative" ease with which I do the contours is due to a long practice? May be? In a way, I am going back to the roots and after that we'll see... »
